Media Specialist – Atlanta – $45-55K
Job summary: The Media Specialist is responsible for securing media coverage for events to promote the brand and current initiatives. The position provides writing and other support to the public relations team and Communications department objectives.
Establish and maintain relationships with local and national media outlets (newspapers, trade magazines, TV, radio, social, etc.). On call for media line.
Proactively lead communication planning for certain areas including economic development and public policy. Stay abreast of priorities and media and trade show needs.
Leverage relationships to secure and shape news stories. Respond to requests for information.
Assist with the production of print and broadcast stories aimed for an array of communication vehicles. Writes press releases, speeches, talking points, newsletters, and social media postings.
Contribute to Communication and Marketing Department projects as needed including producing meeting materials and the annual report, and responding to emerging demands.
Conducts research to identify media and business trends.
College degree in public relations, journalism, media or communications
Five to seven years experience in fast paced, service-oriented communications environment. Passion for and a strong track record in B2B, trade, traditional and new media.
Active engagement in economic development, public policy and/or business media required.
Excellent written and verbal communication and public speaking skills. Negotiation skills.
Extremely professional appearance and behavior required.
High energy, versatile and self-directed.
Good analytical and organizational skills with consistent attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and time-management skills.
Flexibility under time requirements and changing deadlines.
Team player poised to assist other department and staff.
