Atlanta – Tax Director

SUMMARY
Manages the North American organization’s tax function including tax planning, research, tax provision and income tax return compliance and payment processes. Responsible for ensuring that the objectives surrounding the tax function are achieved through efficient and effective utilization of internal and external resources, and for working with Company management to ensure compliance with all jurisdictional, managerial and financial obligations for USA and Canada Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
¨ Manage the organization’s tax function including tax planning, research, tax provision and income tax return compliance and payment processes through the use of internal and OTP resources for US and Canada operations.
¨ Advise management on the tax effects of business activities and strategies for minimizing tax liability with assistance of OTP as needed. Engage OTP on for advisory services on complex matters when appropriate. Includes research and tax planning on a wide range of federal, state and international tax issues for both US and Canada operations.
¨ Prepare or review the annual booked tax provisions for income tax calculations in USA and Canada. Includes tax provision for all jurisdictions, separate company deferred tax balance sheets, tax attribute schedules, tax journal entries, analysis of tax liability/asset accounts, analysis of uncertain tax positions, analysis of valuation allowance and income tax footnote for local audited financial statements. This includes Schedule 5.1 – Deferred Tax included in Annual IFRS Reporting Package.
¨ Advise/Draft summary tax memos in support of any unusual tax accounting matters.
¨ Prepare account analysis and roll forward of income tax balance sheet accounts thru interim (3Q), and year-end (4Q) audit periods.
¨ Respond to federal, state and international audit inquiries, document requests, and tax notices. Coordinate assistance needed from OTP in USA and/or Canada.
¨ Coordinate tax information requests for the OTP with the Business Unit Controllers/Accounting Department. Maintain an annual, quarterly and monthly information request calendar and communicate deadlines. Monitor completion of compliance with requested deadlines. Review information to be provided to the OTP.
¨ Query the SAP general ledger system for financial reports and other information needed for the tax function. Access FAS Fixed Asset software for tax reports required for Provision, and Returns.
¨ Review all U.S. federal and state income tax returns, estimated tax payments and tax extension calculations prepared by OTP.
¨ Review all Canadian federal and provincial income tax returns.
¨ Assist the North America Finance organization with the tax aspects of legal entity accounting, purchase accounting, international accounting, and various other accounting issues.
¨ Assist with tax issues related to domestic and international business acquisitions.
¨ Ensure that effective internal controls surrounding the tax processes are in place and adhered to.
¨ Serve as technical resource to Company personnel responsible for other tax filings, such as sales and use tax, property taxes, payroll taxes, VAT tax, etc.
¨ Coordinate problem resolution relative to tax filings within North American units, including monthly filings, as well as Federal/State Audits. Liaison with OTP as needed.
¨ Coordinate annual special tax projects relative to deductions such as Section 199 Manufacturing Exemption, Foreign Tax Credit utilization, Research & Development Deduction, and Transfer Pricing Study updates.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Position has no direct reports at present.
Education and/or Experience
o Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of seven years broad-based general tax work experience.
o Certified Public Accountant
o Familiarity with SAP, and FAS software a plus
o Understanding of GAAP, and IFRS Standards/Guidelines
